Sunday Hike at Kelly Park

A series of renovations are taking place at Kelly Park in Apopka, so we could not go anywhere near Rock Springs (which is closed to swimmers and tubers due to the pandemic), but we still enjoyed a scenic hike along the Kelly Loop Trail (1.5 miles). No wildlife sightings this time out, but a nice time nonetheless and we pretty much had the whole trail to ourselves!

Hike #47: Kelly Loop Trail, Kelly Park, Apopka

Hike #47: 52 Hike Challenge: Kelly Loop Trail, Kelly Park, Apopka. Normally Kelly Park would be packed on a Saturday afternoon, but the Rock Springs Run was closed to tubers and swimmers on this particular day, so we enjoyed the park pretty much to ourselves. The scenic Kelly Loop Trail runs along the perimeter of the park and lets hikers get away from it all and delve into a little wilderness serenity. We were told that black bear sightings are common in the area, but we had no such luck. However, just the fact that the whole place wasn’t overrun with visitors was good enough for us. Nice spot! Distance: 2.75 miles.

Sala’s Hawaiian Slurp Shack

One of our favorite eateries in Apopka is the eclectic and laid-back Hawaiian Slurp Shack, where you can enjoy delicious Hawaiian cuisine, along with ice cream and shaved ice as you immerse yourself in the colorful Hawaiian-themed decor. I personally recommend the Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl – it’s so damn good that I’ve yet to explore anything else on the menu! Sala’s Hawaiian Slurp Shack is located at 1803 East Semoran Boulevard. It is open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday and closed on Monday.
