Lorelei Restaurant & Cabana Bar

We make it a point to stop by the laid-back Lorelei Restaurant & Cabana Bar (AKA “The Pulse of Islamorada”) on the way to or from Key West and enjoy a nice lunch outdoors amid the scenic tropical atmosphere. I recommend the Sunset Conch Fritters, Key’s Conch Chowder and the Tuna Nachos, although I have yet to try Lorelei’s World Famous Fish Sandwich. By the way, Lorelei also offers a vegan dish: Lorelei’s Vegan Sautee. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, Lorelei also features Daily Happy Hour Specials from 4 PM to 6 PM and a daily sunset party with live music. It is located at 81924 Overseas Highway in Islamorada (Mile Marker 82). Check it out!

Kalua Beach Bar

Overlooking scenic Lake Dora, the Kalua Beach Bar in Tavares is the ideal spot to grab a bite to eat, enjoy an ice-cold beer and listen to some live music. It’s definitely the place to be on a lazy Saturday afternoon! We enjoyed the fried pickles, cheeseburger wrap and grilled chicken sandwich. We’ll definitely be back!

The Blue Gator, Dunnellon

Looking for an idea for a laid-back Central Florida day trip? Head to Rainbow Springs State Park in the morning followed by lunch at the nearby Blue Gator at Angler’s Resort in Dunnellon! Relax on the outdoor deck along the Withlacoochee River and enjoy an ice-cold beer with some steamed shrimp, raw oysters, chicken wings and smoked fish dip (click here for the full menu). Live music takes place here Thursday through Sunday evenings. Airboat tours and boat rentals are also available. The Blue Gator is located at 12189 South Williams Street in Dunnellon.

Frenchy’s Outpost Bar & Grill

An “Open-Air Key West Style Restaurant,” Frenchy’s Outpost Bar & Grill lies just about 2 miles east of Honeymoon Island State Park, making it the ideal spot to grab some lunch and an ice-cold drink after a morning at the beach! I recommend the Caribbean Jerk Chicken Sandwich and the “Fresh Catch” Pretzel (see above). We were entertained by Glenn & Steel Drums during our meal. We’ll definitely be back!

Green Mountain Pizza

On our way to visit the Green Mountain Overlook, we stopped off at Green Mountain Pizza in historic Montverde for a nice lunch. Ideally located on the Green Mountain Scenic Byway, Green Mountain Pizza is billed as “An Italian/American Kitchen in Central Florida’s Countryside!” We had some delicious homemade cheese bread with marinara sauce, as well as a couple slices of tasty pizza. In addition to hand-tossed brick oven pizzas, Green Mountain Pizza offers pasta dishes, calzones, stromboli, hot and cold subs, burgers, wings, breakfast sandwiches and more. Save room for some Bindi desserts (imported directly from Italy) and enjoy an authentic European-style cup of coffee. We’ll definitely be back!

Sala’s Hawaiian Slurp Shack

One of our favorite eateries in Apopka is the eclectic and laid-back Hawaiian Slurp Shack, where you can enjoy delicious Hawaiian cuisine, along with ice cream and shaved ice as you immerse yourself in the colorful Hawaiian-themed decor. I personally recommend the Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl – it’s so damn good that I’ve yet to explore anything else on the menu! Sala’s Hawaiian Slurp Shack is located at 1803 East Semoran Boulevard. It is open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday and closed on Monday.

AJ’s on the River

Enjoy a juicy burger and ice-cold beer on an outdoor deck overlooking the Alafia River in the heart of Gibsonton (AKA “Gibtown). What more could you ask for? I recommend the Goat Cheese Burger drizzled with balsamic — absolutely delicious! In addition, AJ’s hosts live music several days a week. AJ’s on the River is located at 9808 Vaughn Street (take Exit 250 off I-75). It is open daily for lunch and dinner.
