A hidden gem located in the heart of a neighborhood just off the 408 and east of downtown Orlando, Demetree Park is a great spot for a short stroll among wildlife (we encountered white ibises, a great egret, great blue heron, green heron and many ducks during our quick visit).
Florida Parks
Wandering Trimble Park
Along with Palm Island Park, Trimble Park is one of my go-to spots in Mount Dora for a quick hike. It’s a nice mix of wooded trails and scenic boardwalks. Sometimes I’ll glimpse an alligator or two, but not this time.
Back to Lake Lotus
We spent a nice Sunday afternoon wandering around Lake Lotus Park in Altamonte Springs, followed by a visit to Lake Lily Park and then dinner at Athena Roasted Chicken (I ordered the vegetarian pita, which was amazing!).
Lake Lily Wildlife
Despite its tiny size, Lake Lily Park in Maitland features a nice variety of wildlife. Check it out!
Exploring Palm Island
I never get tired of exploring Palm Island Park in Mount Dora. There’s always something new to see here!
Overlook Park
Nestled along scenic Lake Jesup in Oviedo, Overlook Park is a nice place to chill – if you can find it! There are no hiking trails here, but the view is excellent.
Wandering Hickory Point Park
Tucked in a far corner of Hickory Point Park, a huge recreational complex in Tavares, lies a very scenic boardwalk. Just follow the sidewalk that heads west of the playground to find it. You’ll be glad you did!
The Trails of Palm Island
I’ve visited Palm Island Park in Mount Dora dozens of times and I see something new with each visit. That’s why I encourage you to explore both the great boardwalk and the short but scenic network of trails. Enjoy your hike!
Hiking Gemini Springs Park
Gemini Springs Park in DeBary gets a lot of visitors, but the vast majority come here for fishing, picnics and the playground. However, if you head out on some of the scenic hiking trails, you can quickly leave the bustling world far behind and enjoy nature at your leisure!
Hiking Green Springs Park
Green Springs Park in Deltona features a series of very short but scenic hiking trails. I suggest parking at Green Springs Park and wandering around a little bit, and then hiking to nearby Thornby Park via the Spring-to-Spring Trail. It’s a great way to spend an early Saturday morning!
