I never get tired of exploring Palm Island Park in Mount Dora. There’s always something new to see here!

Hiking Near Econ River
We had a nice hike at Econ River Wilderness Area this morning. A lot of the river is still overflowing onto parts of the trail, but we got as close as possible.
Ramble Out Yonder
“Ramble out yonder and explore the forests … sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, the lovely, mysterious and awesome space.” – Edward Abbey
What I’m Reading …
“Every film I listed in this book, including those everyone agrees are trashy, has devoted fans; these are the films that are discussed in film courses, constantly referred to by critics, and/or championed by movie-lovers. They aren’t all masterpieces – indeed, you’ll think that many are terrible – but in some way all are interesting to someone who is genuinely interested in film.” – Danny Peary
Lake Apopka Sunset
After we enjoyed a nice dinner at Winter Garden Pizza Company in downtown Winter Garden last night, we headed over to Newton Park and were fortunate to catch a scenic sunset over Lake Apopka.
Birds of Lake Apopka
Along with plenty of alligators (see previous post), we viewed a variety of bird species at Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive over the weekend. Especially great blue herons, anhingas and great egrets!
Gators of Lake Apopka
As I’ve mentioned before, one of the most effortless ways to view alligators in their natural habitat in Central Florida is to take the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive. What are you waiting for?
Fort Christmas
On my way back from Orlando Wetlands Park yesterday, I enjoyed the opportunity of exploring Fort Christmas Historical Park. The highlight of the park is a replica of a fort built in 1837 during the Second Seminole Indian War. It’s full of some great informative exhibits. The premises also include a traditional Florida “cracker” house and some other historic structures that I didn’t have time to check out during this visit. Don’t miss it!
Return to Orlando Wetlands
This morning I returned to Orlando Wetlands Park in Christmas for the first time this year. It was sweltering hot and I saw a lot of birds, but only one gator. However, it was good to be back there! One of my favorite spots to view wildlife in Central Florida.
What I’m Watching …
“Without dreams we would be cows in a field and I don’t want to live like that. I live my life or I end my life with this project.” – Werner Herzog
