We finally made it to Big Talbot Island State Park and wandered around Boneyard Beach. As you can see, it’s a fascinating place – highly recommended!

Oldest Bar in Florida
The Palace Saloon on Amelia Island claims to be the oldest bar in Florida. It first opened its doors in 1903. We loved this place – friendly bartenders, ice-cold beer and great entertainment!
The Only Paradise We Ever Need
“The love of wilderness is more than a hunger for what is always beyond reach; it is also an expression of loyalty to the earth, the earth which bore us and sustains us, the only home we shall ever know, the only paradise we ever need – if only we had the eyes to see ” – Edward Abbey
What I’m Reading …
“Known for his growling vocals and for the distinct poetry of his lyrics, Tom Waits has amassed … a devoted cult following. The Early Years collects the lyrics – formative and classic – from the first ten albums of this bard of hard living.”
Wandering Mount Dora
Yesterday I wandered around Palm Island Park and the Port of Mount Dora. I had the place to myself. Not a bad way to spend a Monday afternoon!
Remembering It All
“I felt like lying down by the side of the trail and remembering it all. The woods do that to you.” – Jack Kerouac
Demetree Park
A hidden gem located in the heart of a neighborhood just off the 408 and east of downtown Orlando, Demetree Park is a great spot for a short stroll among wildlife (we encountered white ibises, a great egret, great blue heron, green heron and many ducks during our quick visit).
Wandering Trimble Park
Along with Palm Island Park, Trimble Park is one of my go-to spots in Mount Dora for a quick hike. It’s a nice mix of wooded trails and scenic boardwalks. Sometimes I’ll glimpse an alligator or two, but not this time.
