If you need a quick break from the hustle and bustle of River Street in Savannah, I suggest you take a short drive out to Wormsloe State Historic Site, home to the ruins of a 1726 colonial estate. Highlights include picturesque Live Oak Avenue, Wormsloe tabby ruins, gravesite, observation deck, colonial life area and hiking trails. Don’t miss it!

Abe’s on Lincoln
A funky little dive bar, Abe’s on Lincoln was one of the highlights of our weekend excursion to Savannah. Known for its cocktail napkin art of Abraham Lincoln that lines the walls and ceiling (along with very strong drinks), Abe’s on Lincoln is a must-visit destination to add to your Savannah itinerary!
Bonaventure Cemetey
The Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah has earned a reputation as one of the most beautiful (and haunted!) cemeteries in the world. We got the opportunity to wander around the cemetery yesterday and found it totally fascinating! So many great and unusual sculptures are here. Definitely worth a look whenever you’re passing through. Highly recommended!
That One Spot
It’s no secret that quality restaurants in Ocoee are few and far between. That’s why That One Spot is such a diamond in the rough! I recommend the salmon burger with fries. Check it out!
What I’m Reading …
“There is a special place, at the end of nowhere, but on the way to everywhere …”
Central Florida Boardwalks
During the rainy season, I usually try to avoid the muddiest hiking trails and spend most of my time outdoors wandering on the scenic boardwalks. Here are my favorite Central Florida boardwalks:
- Black Hammock Wilderness Area
- Blue Spring State Park, Orange City
- Hickory Point Park, Tavares
- Lake Ashby Park, New Smyrna Beach
- Lake Lotus Park, Altamonte Springs
- Lighthouse Point Park, Ponce Inlet
- Oakland Nature Preserve, Oakland
- Palm Island Park, Mount Dora
- Tibet-Butler Preserve, Orlando
- Trimble Park, Mount Dora
- Trout Nature Center, Eustis
The Ultimate Prize
“Not too many years ago, it was access to information and movement that seemed our greatest luxury; nowadays it’s often freedom from information, the chance to sit still, that feels like the ultimate prize.” -Pico Iyer
All Over America
“All over America today people would be dragging themselves to work, stuck in traffic jams, wreathed in exhaust smoke. I was going for a walk in the woods.” – Bill Bryson
Exploring Palm Island
I never get tired of exploring Palm Island Park in Mount Dora. There’s always something new to see here!
Hiking Near Econ River
We had a nice hike at Econ River Wilderness Area this morning. A lot of the river is still overflowing onto parts of the trail, but we got as close as possible.
